These small group (max 4) “Meeting of the Waters” tours include transportation from hotel in air conditioned vehicle, boat transportation, the service of 2 guides (a fluent English speaking guide and a local guide), water and snack. If within the lunch hour, it’s possible to have a delicious Pirarucu buffet at the Janauary Ecological Park by a lake in a relaxing atmosphere (+ USD 15 per person).
TOUR 1 : MEETING OF THE WATERS
DURATION: 2 – 3 hours
The meeting of the waters is a natural phenomenon and one of the Amazon's best-known attractions. Nature demonstrates its majesty as the muddy brown waters of the Rio Solimões meet the black waters of the Rio Negro. The rivers don't mix because of the differences in temperature, velocity and salinity, they will run side by side for miles before merging to form the mighty Amazon River. Some dolphin might be seen playing above the water.
A quite captivating activity for the daring ones is to have a swim right at the meeting place of the waters, 20 metres (65 feet) deep, life jackets available. Swimming from the Rio Negro to the Amazon River, a range of about 10 metres (32 feet) is a thrilling experience as you feel a remarkable temperature difference on your body.
TOUR 2 : MEETING OF THE WATERS + PIRARUCU “FISHING”
DURATION: 3 – 4 hours
After seeing the Meeting of the Waters, you will go to a Pirarucu (world's largest fresh water fish) creation where you'll feed them with bait on a rope and stick (no hocks) and have the biggest catch of your life feeling.
TOUR 3 : MEETING OF THE WATERS + PIRARUCU “FISHING” + RIDE ON THE AMAZON RIVER + JANAUARY ECOLOGICAL PARK
DURATION: 4 – 5 hours
After the Pirarucu fish farm, you will go further up a creek of about 30 meters (98 feet) wide for approximately 15 minutes to finally make your entrance at a 1,6 km (over a mile) wide section of the Amazon River, then keep going for another 10 minutes and witness a 5 km (some 3 miles) wide section of the Amazon River. You'll then come back and go to the Janauary Ecological Park for a small stroll on an elevated walkway and optional lunch. There, you will see the famous Victoria Regia water lilies.
